‘Love Aaj Kal’ – highest grosser of the year!

Eros International, the leading London-listed Indian Media and Entertainment Company has announced an unprecedented opening for Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Love Aaj Kal’ – an Illuminati Films production in association with Eros International. Eros International released the film worldwide on 31st July 2009 and the film has since grossed Rs. 108 crores in its first week, making it the highest grosser of the year with over Rs. 75 crores coming from India ( Rs. 45 crores net). It can be said that now Eros has hit double century with ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ and now with ‘Love Aaj Kal’.

Love Aaj Kal enjoyed a wide release with approximately 1200 prints and released in 1800 plus screens worldwide and saw screenings as early as 7.30 a.m. in certain multiplexes in India, making it one of the most anticipated films in recent times. The film’s staggering first week gross collections have made it one of the biggest ever openings for a Hindi film in India as well as overseas. With as many as 20-22 shows planned daily at some multiplexes, Eros International is looking forward to an excellent run of the film.

Expressing delight at the film’s performance over the week, Nandu Ahuja, Sr. VP – Distribution – India, Eros International said, “We are ecstatic with the audience as well as critics’ reactions to ‘Love Aaj Kal’. The superb run of the film in the first week has superseded all expectations and we are expecting the film to continue its excellent performance in the coming weeks as well. The Raksha Bandhan holiday greatly helped boost up admissions mid week”.

Pranab Kapadia, President of Distribution - Europe & Africa, Eros International adds, “Love Aaj Kal has performed incredibly well in all the overseas markets making this one of the biggest Bollywood films internationally. We were expecting a commercial success but this kind of response has been overwhelming with all major markets indicating remarkable box office results”.

With the film opening in cinemas in India to a fantastic 95-100 percent capacity audiences and maintaining a steady 60-70 percent from Monday, Love Aaj Kal promises to be the biggest film of recent times. ‘Love Aaj Kal’ directed by Imtiaz Ali stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. The film’s super hit sound track has been composed by Pritam.
